The Rounders

In an age of over-produced power pop, rap, and alternative rock, no one would have ever expected a band straight out of high school to bust out material from the post-war era and get away with it. But sure enough, the wonderment of antiquity pouring out of these old souls charmed the pants off of audiences far and wide. Before most of them were of drinking age, The Rounders quickly became one of the hottest live acts in the Oklahoma City metro area. They immediately gained critical acclaim from local media praising their refreshing originality and natural ability to capture and enhance the traditions of American roots music while keeping it stripped down, raw, and honest. Citing influences as widespread as Little Walter to Tom Waits, The Rounders appealed to most anyone who had rhythm and passion. As testimony, they not only won the Oklahoma Blues Society's "Best Unsigned Band" contest but also 105.3 The Spy's "Underground Talent Search" competing against alternative rock bands.

Since their formation four years ago, The Rounders have continued to pave their own road towards success. Their first, independent release last year, Little Bitty Can Of Worms, garnered interest across the globe. It entered regular rotation on local radio and made its way onto the play lists of national stations alongside top Billboard artists. But even with the momentum of the album, the band was having serious growing pains. The new songs had matured and taken better shape. So, back into the studio they went, teaming up with their previous producer and engineer, Trent Bell (Flaming Lips, Starlight Mints), and spent some earnest time laying it all down. Out came Now-a-Day Songs - with all originals written by chief songsmith and guitarist Ryan Taylor, produced by Bell and band with a contribution of slide-guitar by Mike Hosty on "Them Jackson Blues."
