Since 1971, the Norman Firehouse Art Center, Inc., a non-profit organization, has served Norman and surrounding communities with visual art classes and gallery exhibitions of high quality. Our qualified faculty provide instruction in both thrown and hand built ceramics, painting and drawing, jewelry construction, photography, wood working, landscape design, stained glass, printmaking and fiber arts and more, in well equipped classrooms. Sixty-five classes are offered in each of four sessions, with more than 1000 adult and 1000 child enrollments annually. Guests artists of national renown are brought to the Firehouse for weekend workshops, coordinated with an exhibition of their work in our gallery. These workshops, listed in national craft magazines, attract students from across Oklahoma, surrounding states and as far away as Chicago and Detroit. Enrollment in our programs steadily grows, having more than doubled in the past several years. Norman has grown steadily and the Firehouse has grown with it.
The Firehouse Art Center produces well-known events such as The Chocolate Festival and Chocolate Gala, ArchitecTour (a tour of homes designed by architects), Midsummer Nights' Fair, Ceramic Art Auction of student and professionals and the Holiday Gift Gallery.
