Chu-Fang Huang, 23, is a citizen of China currently residing in the United States. She is the 2005 winner of the Cleveland International Piano Competition, selected from a field of 30 candidates who performed over a 10-day period. The Cleveland International Piano competition presents the largest cash prize of any contest of its kind worldwide. Ms. Huang began studying piano when she was seven. At the age of twelve, she was accepted on full scholarship as the youngest student in the Shenyang Music Conservatory’s pre-college division. She made her U.S. debut in the “Prodigy Series” of the La Jolla Music Society at the age of fifteen, soon after moving to the US from her native China. Ms. Huang was a 2005 Van Cliburn International Piano Competition finalist. Additional honors include fourth Prize at both the 2004 Beijing International Piano competition and the Sydney International Piano competition. Since 2003, Ms. Huang has performed as a soloist and with orchestras around the world, including the Victoria Symphony, the Fort Worth Symphony, and the Hilton Head Orchestra. As a result of her success at the Van Cliburn and Cleveland competitions, Ms. Huang embarks on three years of concert engagements throughout the United States. This season, she performs in Chicago, Washington, D.C. (Kennedy Center), Essen, Germany, and in the Netherlands. In addition, she is appearing in recitals and education programs for Grand Valley State University (MI), the University of Arkansas in Little Rock, the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire and, of course, the Ventura Music Festival 2006 Season in May 2006. On November 16, 2005 she make her Lincoln Center recital debut at Alice Tully Hall. Chu-Fang Huang is a recent graduate of the Curtis Institute of Music and is currently pursuing her master’s degree at the Juilliard School of Music, as a pupil of Robert McDonald.
